John Nirmal first learned about Kiron Mentoring through Kiron’s partnership with TE Connectivity, a global industrial technology leader where he serves as a board member, director, and engineering project manager. The program connects displaced learners with professionals for one-on-one guidance, career advice, and personal support over a period of six months. With his extensive background in guiding complex engineering projects, mentoring was a natural extension of John’s professional and personal values.
Based in India, John chose to volunteer remotely as a Kiron mentor, making time in his schedule to support refugee learners navigating new paths in unfamiliar environments. “It fills me with a rewarding sense of contribution,” he shares. “Giving back to the community is an awesome feeling.”
While John brings years of technical and leadership expertise to the table, he emphasizes that mentoring has offered him a different kind of growth. “Through this volunteer experience, I’ve learned to cultivate a more empathetic and grateful mindset,” he says. This mutual exchange of learning is at the heart of the Kiron Mentoring program, creating an opportunity not only for mentees to build confidence and skills, but also for mentors to broaden their own perspectives and strengthen their sense of community.
To others considering becoming mentors, John encourages them to take part in the initiative for their mutual benefit. Whether it's a conversation that builds confidence or a shared resource that opens new doors, mentors have the potential to make a lasting difference.
